The Music of Grant Foster

Foster, G: Celebration Overture

Rhapsody for piano & orchestra

The Rhapsody for piano and orchestra ‘War, Peace, Love’ is heard in two versions – one the studio recording on CD and the other a live recording from the Moscow Conservatoire on the bonus DVD

Ballade for piano & violin
Four Voyages for piano
Mira Yevtich (piano) | Novaya Rossia State Orchestra, Alexander Anissimov

The first full CD devoted to the music of Australian Grant Foster amounts to a ‘composer portrait’, including orchestral works, a recent ballade for violin and piano, and solo piano pieces. His music is unashamedly tonal, with highly memorable themes – notably heard in his exhilarating, joyful Celebration Overture and the dramatic Rhapsody for piano and orchestra ‘War, Peace, Love’, also performed by Mira Yevtich on a bonus DVD.

“The Celebration Overture simply blew me away with its brash, heart-on-sleeve big tunes and sumptuous orchestral sound. I hear superior folk tutting with disgust, But chacun à son goût! I really haven’t heard anything as striking as this for a long while. Kitsch it undoubtedly is, and maybe it doesn't go anywhere much. But - for heaven's sake - enjoy it while it's here! If, like me, you like big tunes and feel starved of them, just go for it!” Gramophone Magazine, March 2008
